Aquia Inc. Graduates First Apprentice, Mackenzie Wartenberger, from Accelerator Program

The paid apprenticeship program was created to address the cybersecurity talent shortage; Mack joins the company as a full-time associate security architect

MILLSBORO, Del., March 6, 2023 -- Aquia Inc., a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) specializing in cloud and cybersecurity professional services, today announced the graduation of Mackenzie “Mack” Wartenberger, the first apprentice to have completed its Aquia Accelerator apprenticeship program. Mack will join the company as an associate security architect.

Mack joined Aquia Accelerator as its first-ever apprentice in September 2022. The program was created to address the cybersecurity talent shortage by providing paid apprenticeships to United States veterans, individuals from underserved communities, and those in the midst of career transitions.

Formerly an accomplished coach with 13 years of experience in NCAA collegiate athletics, Mack was looking for an opportunity to marry her proven leadership and training skills with her passion and eagerness to learn in the technology space.

“I am thrilled to be joining Aquia as a full-time employee,” said Mack Wartenberger, associate security architect, Aquia. “From day one of my apprenticeship I was impressed by the innovative ways in which Aquia is tackling transforming the cybersecurity landscape, and contributing to that important work has been my goal for a long time. I want to thank Aquia’s leadership for boldly taking a chance on me as the first Accelerator apprentice, and my incredible mentors, team members, and coworkers for their patience, support, and guidance over the last six months. I am excited to get to work!”

Through the six-month-long paid apprenticeship, Mack received access to training materials and curated courseware, real-world delivery examples, and a dedicated mentor.

“Mack was able to demonstrate value to Aquia and our customers almost immediately, which is a testament to her brilliant work ethic and dedication to her new career,” said Erica Rebstock, principal governance, risk, and compliance specialist, Aquia. “As her mentor, I was blown away by how quickly she was able to learn our complicated practice and was honored to help guide her through this wonderful new chapter in her life.”

The company will announce its next Aquia Accelerator apprentice this week.
